Fall Mini Sessions in Columbus: What to Expect & How to Book
Fall in Ohio is fast, beautiful, and full of color. It’s also one of the best times of year to update your family photos! If you’ve been searching for fall mini sessions in Columbus, Ohio or fall family photos in Westerville, you’re in the right place.
I’m Christy, a family and senior photographer based in Westerville, and I’m here to take the stress out of your family photo session! Whether you’ve booked a mini session before or it’s your first time, this guide will walk you through what to expect, how to prep, and how to book.
What Is a Fall Mini Session?
A mini session is a short and sweet version of a full session. It lasts only 20 minutes, which makes it perfect for families with young kids, busy schedules, or just a short attention span.
You still get a bunch of great photos. We just move a little faster and keep things simple.
With my minis, you’ll get 5 full resolution digital images of your choice. They are typically delivered to you a few weeks after your session in an online gallery, and you have the option to purchase more images – single photos or the full gallery!

- A quick and fun experience with beautiful results
👉 Unpopular opinion: Mini sessions are not always meant to replace a full length session. I truly believe that often MORE time is better, especially for kiddos. We can take our time to let them open up, build trust with me, explore the location and let them get some energy out without feeling the pressure of a small time frame. However, if you’re working with me for the first time or you just need a few beautiful, updated photos of your favorite people, a mini session might be perfect for you!
Why Fall is the Best Time for Photos in Columbus
Let’s be honest… Ohio fall doesn’t stick around long. One day it’s 70 and sunny, the next it’s cold and gray. But when it’s good—it’s REALLY good.
The colors in October are gorgeous. Warm golds, soft reds, crunchy leaves, and that cozy fall light you can’t get in summer.
It’s also the time of year when families are planning ahead. That’s why fall mini sessions book up fast!
What to Expect at Your Mini Session
Mini sessions are quick, fun, and low-stress. You’ll show up, Sarah and I will guide you through some relaxed poses, and we’ll keep things light and simple.
Here’s what you can expect:
- 20 minutes of shooting time
- Light posing mixed with natural moments
- A fun, low-pressure vibe
- A full online gallery with a mix of posed and candid photos
These sessions are fast—but that’s part of the magic. It’s enough time to get what we need without tiring out the kids.
What’s Included in My Fall Mini Session
Each mini session includes:
- 20 minutes at a pre-selected location
- A private online gallery delivered within 2 weeks
- 5 high-resolution digital images (with the option to purchase more)
- Print release for personal use
- Access to professional prints and albums if you’d like to order
Photographer Tips to Make It Easy
Here are a few quick tips to help you get the most from your session:
- Choose comfy, coordinated outfits—no need to match perfectly
- Layers are great for fall
- Bring a snack or toy for little ones. I often bring a treat basket so kiddos can choose a reward at the end of our session!
- Arrive early to avoid stress
- Don’t worry about forced smiles—natural is better

Inniswood Metro Gardens (Westerville)
Great paths, beautiful light, and lots of fall color.
Everal Barn & Homestead
Rustic, charming buildings and perfect golden-hour light.
Sharon Woods Metro Park
Wide open space, quiet trails, and easy parking.
Each spot is family-friendly, easy to access, and full of pretty backdrops.

Booking is simple! Just:

FAQ
What should we wear?
In a nutshell: Soft colors, layers, and comfy clothes work best. When you’re comfortable and confident, it shows! Avoid logos and neon.
What happens if it rains?
We’ll reschedule. I keep backup dates ready just in case.
Can I bring grandparents or a pet?
Minis are limited to one household. For more people, ask about a full session. You know I LOVE pets and always want to include them. Ask me first just in case this year’s location doesn’t allow them.
What if my child doesn’t smile?
No stress! We focus on connection, not perfection. Real moments are just as beautiful.
Can we upgrade to a full session later?
Yes! If you want more time, images, or a custom location, I’ve got options.

Sometimes Ohio gives us crazy weather. As photographers, we learn to play close attention and roll with it one way or the other. After torrential rains forced us to reschedule, we ended up with a perfect night for beautiful Brianna’s senior photos! POV: you can’t stop giggling even though you have to do multiple head swaps for your own family photos. 🤣
He makes me laugh – and I mean, tear-wiping, gasping belly laughs – so often, and it’s one of the things I love most about us. It was so much fun capturing this beauty in my lens! She shares a name with my Elliana, which was so special to me – it`s even spelled the same way! My Ellie and I were so tickled by that.
I was so grateful for an open night on my schedule and the perfect weather to wrap up Ellie`s senior year before she headed off to college. We had such a fun evening – I so loved her laid back, down to earth, joyful presence. And what an amazing, bright future lays before her as a gymnast and a pre med student!! KEIRA – 2027 Senior!! It was such a joy to photograph this beautiful soul – gorgeous inside and out. She`s been a friend to my Audrey for many years – it was always amazing to watch them battle through soccer games together! Warriors in their own right! (They were the Wildcats, but I digress…)
Keira asked if we could do the first part of her session at her favorite bookstore – um absolutely YES! I LOVE making senior sessions as personalized as they want to make them.
If I could go back and do my own senior photos, I would have died to shoot in a bookstore. It was so much fun including her favorite book into her photos! (I got to add it to my reading list too!)

When you love something as much as Ryan loves swimming, you can`t help but stop and take it all in, fully appreciating the passion. The second he jumped in, I could just feel it, the joy of being exactly in his element, and all was right with the world. I definitely left a piece of my heart at Cedarville today. Not having my girl at home is hard – harder than I’d like to admit. Lots of tears today! S A D I E – Class of 2027!
Every session I do is special. Being able to remember these moments in time exactly as they are, while the years continue to march on, is a gift in so many ways. Not just for you, but for me too.
But taking senior photos for the friends that my kids have grown up with from infancy…. whew. I hold these sessions dear. It is such a joy to have watched the girls grow up together, to see the wonderful humans they have grown in to.
Sadie is one such amazing, wonderful human. An old soul. Absolutely gorgeous inside and out. She`s caring, and in such an intuitive way… she sees you, cares about what makes you tick, and feels what you are feeling. I`m not sure how she`s already a senior, but here we are. I can`t WAIT to see what she decides to do after high school. It`s going to be amazing!

I absolutely love doing these sessions of multiple family generations together. Especially when family members are coming in from other states to see each other! These times together are PRICELESS. Life is BUSY. We are all going in a million different directions. To be able to slow down and spend these moments together is so important. Freezing this moment of time in photos that we can look back on in the years to come when things DO slow down… there is no value we can give to that.
So. When this amazing family contacted me about doing a family session with three generations to celebrate Sue & Rocky`s 50th wedding anniversary, I jumped at the chance! We had a BLAST!

– THREE of these dates will be at a gorgeous park featuring a beautiful bridge, white gravel trails, pine forest, and a shallow creek bed surrounded by mature trees. This is a brand new location for me – I’ve never done minis here!
– ONE of these dates will be at a beautiful horse farm! Think open tree lined fields, rustic fences and barns, horses, chickens, and more!

To say I love this session isn`t quite being truthful.
I`ve been taking Olivia`s photos since she was in .. middle school?! Maybe early high school. I did family photos for her amazing family (my beautiful name twin, @whiskful_thinking_by_christy !!) and then her senior photos, followed by sessions with Nick, their engagement, their wedding, maternity photos, family photos, you name it! I have been incredibly honored to capture their story. Their life journey. This particular session was so sweet because we captured these memories in the very spot where they got married!! (The Barnhardt Farm is absolutely amazing. Just gorgeous.) Priceless!!!
So I don`t just love this session. It means the WORLD to me. Love you all, Olivia, Nick, and boys! I couldn`t be HAPPIER to see you welcome baby # 3 – cannot WAAAAIT to meet him!!!
