I’m Christy, a family and senior photographer based in Westerville, and I’m here to take the stress out of your family photo session! Whether you’ve booked a mini session before or it’s your first time, this guide will walk you through what to expect, how to prep, and how to book.
What Is a Fall Mini Session?
A mini session is a short and sweet version of a full session. It lasts only 20 minutes, which makes it perfect for families with young kids, busy schedules, or just a short attention span.
You still get a bunch of great photos. We just move a little faster and keep things simple.
With my minis, you’ll get 5 full resolution digital images of your choice. They are typically delivered to you a few weeks after your session in an online gallery, and you have the option to purchase more images – single photos or the full gallery!

👉 Unpopular opinion: Mini sessions are not always meant to replace a full length session. I truly believe that often MORE time is better, especially for kiddos. We can take our time to let them open up, build trust with me, explore the location and let them get some energy out without feeling the pressure of a small time frame. However, if you’re working with me for the first time or you just need a few beautiful, updated photos of your favorite people, a mini session might be perfect for you!

Mini sessions are quick, fun, and low-stress. You’ll show up, Sarah and I will guide you through some relaxed poses, and we’ll keep things light and simple.

These sessions are fast—but that’s part of the magic. It’s enough time to get what we need without tiring out the kids.

- 20 minutes at a pre-selected location
- A private online gallery delivered within 2 weeks
- 5 high-resolution digital images (with the option to purchase more)
- Print release for personal use

- Bring a snack or toy for little ones. I often bring a treat basket so kiddos can choose a reward at the end of our session!

What should we wear?
In a nutshell: Soft colors, layers, and comfy clothes work best. When you’re comfortable and confident, it shows! Avoid logos and neon.
What happens if it rains?
We’ll reschedule. I keep backup dates ready just in case.
Can I bring grandparents or a pet?
Minis are limited to one household. For more people, ask about a full session. You know I LOVE pets and always want to include them. Ask me first just in case this year’s location doesn’t allow them.
What if my child doesn’t smile?
No stress! We focus on connection, not perfection. Real moments are just as beautiful.
Can we upgrade to a full session later?
Yes! If you want more time, images, or a custom location, I’ve got options.

I absolutely love our sessions with this beautiful family! I first met them in a prior extended family session and was so honored to be called upon to take Victoria`s newborn photos. Seeing how much their sweet girl has grown these past months is PRICELESS. I loved every minute of catch up time with Elizabeth and Mike!
There is something infinitely special about capturing these different stages of our kiddos lives. They will never be this age again, and each stage goes SO quickly. This rings true with my own kids continually. It`s such a joy for me to package these sessions into a figurative time capsule to look back on!

So much love for this session. Despite some roadblocks and mishaps surrounding the timing, all of it out of our control, it worked out perfectly in the end with all the family together in town for a very quick shoot – we were done in just over 30 minutes. But despite the biting cold, the crazy schedules and the eventful weekend, we captured these fun, beautiful, real moments that Martha and Jim and their wonderful family will treasure forever. These moments are what matter. The love we feel and remember when we look back at these memories with our dear ones.

Okay, I’ll bite! Everyone is posting about 2016. What a year. How was this a decade ago?!?
☀️I had a newborn.
☀️I was figuring out how to do life as a mama of 2.
☀️I was busy with two small businesses – Christy Rice Photography and Fresh Coat, the furniture painting business @ab_palmer and I had a blast with!!
☀️I cut my hair short for the second time in my adult life.
☀️My body had a blessed rest from RA during pregnancy and 2 months post partum, it hit me again like a Mack truck. I went back on biologics for some relief until I could figure things out.
☀️ Overall, I was so happy and grateful. Love my girls and Eric so much. I’ve grown a whole lot in many ways since then, but I’m still happy and grateful. God is so so good!
