Iโm Christy, a family and senior photographer based in Westerville, and Iโm here to take the stress out of your family photo session! Whether youโve booked a mini session before or itโs your first time, this guide will walk you through what to expect, how to prep, and how to book.
What Is a Fall Mini Session?
A mini session is a short and sweet version of a full session. It lasts only 20 minutes, which makes it perfect for families with young kids, busy schedules, or just a short attention span.
You still get a bunch of great photos. We just move a little faster and keep things simple.
With my minis, youโll get 5 full resolution digital images of your choice. They are typically delivered to you a few weeks after your session in an online gallery, and you have the option to purchase more images โ single photos or the full gallery!

๐ Unpopular opinion: Mini sessions are not always meant to replace a full length session. I truly believe that often MORE time is better, especially for kiddos. We can take our time to let them open up, build trust with me, explore the location and let them get some energy out without feeling the pressure of a small time frame. However, if youโre working with me for the first time or you just need a few beautiful, updated photos of your favorite people, a mini session might be perfect for you!
Why Fall is the Best Time for Photos in Columbus
Letโs be honestโฆ Ohio fall doesnโt stick around long. One day itโs 70 and sunny, the next itโs cold and gray. But when itโs goodโitโs REALLY good.
The colors in October are gorgeous. Warm golds, soft reds, crunchy leaves, and that cozy fall light you canโt get in summer.

Mini sessions are quick, fun, and low-stress. Youโll show up, Sarah and I will guide you through some relaxed poses, and weโll keep things light and simple.

- A full online gallery with a mix of posed and candid photos
These sessions are fastโbut thatโs part of the magic. Itโs enough time to get what we need without tiring out the kids.

- 20 minutes at a pre-selected location
- A private online gallery delivered within 2 weeks
- 5 high-resolution digital images (with the option to purchase more)
- Print release for personal use

- Layers are great for fall
- Bring a snack or toy for little ones. I often bring a treat basket so kiddos can choose a reward at the end of our session!

What should we wear?
In a nutshell: Soft colors, layers, and comfy clothes work best. When youโre comfortable and confident, it shows! Avoid logos and neon.
What happens if it rains?
Weโll reschedule. I keep backup dates ready just in case.
Can I bring grandparents or a pet?
Minis are limited to one household. For more people, ask about a full session. You know I LOVE pets and always want to include them. Ask me first just in case this yearโs location doesnโt allow them.
What if my child doesnโt smile?
No stress! We focus on connection, not perfection. Real moments are just as beautiful.
Can we upgrade to a full session later?
Yes! If you want more time, images, or a custom location, Iโve got options.

Eric and I had the most amazing weekend in Michigan. We began by shooting a wedding for our friends and celebrating them! It was wonderful! Then we headed out for a magical whirlwind day and a half of exploring Grand Haven and Saugatuck. We stayed in the most wonderful bed & breakfast in Grand Haven and found absolutely amazing restaurants and coffee, a spot to drop our paddle board in, and a fun light show on the canal. The following day we explored Saugatuck, the most adorable little beach town. We want to go back and bring the girls with us! So fun. 10/10 highly recommend time away with your spouse. It was an immense honor and joy to be part of this very special session with them. From the very first moment of meeting them, I could see they were perfect together. Sessions with Silas (this needs to be a podcast or tv show) are a BLAST. Seeing his love for his parents and his pups pulls all the heart strings! He`s grown so much since seeing him last year โ I remember him being much more shy and unsure last year. This session he was outgoing and open, and it was so much FUNโฆ a JOY to capture his many sweet and silly expressions!
These moments are fleeting.. priceless.. and I LOVE that the dogs are involved in each of the G fam`s sessions!

I loved this session with FOUR generations of wonderful family, some who came from out of the state!
Extended family sessions are so important. You might remember me talking about my own "Grams" who passed away a few years ago at the age of 96. I treasure the photo session(s) we had with her. These moments with Great Grandma are precious. Phyllis was so funny, laughing when she joked "they made me do this!" But watching her smile and hold hands with her loved ones, enjoying these moments togetherโฆ priceless.

We spent the most amazing evening with this beautiful family! It always makes me so so happy to see families with grown children do photo sessions! They are just as important as pictures with the little ones.
Maybe it`s just me being emotional about my 18 year old who is going off to college in the fall, but these moments with our adult kids are priceless. We see our sweet ones less often as they are busy stepping out into the world to live their own lives, working hard, going to school, exploring life. It`s all SO good and so necessary. But it makes these moments together even more precious.

I adore this family! I met them for the first time last fall, and I really love our sessions together.
Do you want to know something? Little Mia wasn`t excited about pictures, and Eli was coming off a cold and didn`t feel well. Did we still get great photos? YES. Did it take a few minutes to let the kiddos warm up and start to have fun? YES. Did we still get some "real life" pictures where not everyone is perfectly smiling? Of course.
