Meet Christy Rice, owner of Christy Rice Photography

I started in 2009 as a "Momtog"

[MOM-tog] (n)

A mom who borrowed a camera from a friend to take "nice pics" of her babies, fell in love with photography, and went on to start her own photography business.

How it started

I started my business in 2012 after some coaxing from close friends who encouraged my love for photography and wanted to pay me to take photos of their families. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing.

I just wanted to take pretty pictures with lots of beautiful blurry backgrounds - I had zero interest in running a business.

I poured myself into honing my skills. I was hired to be a "second shooter" (assistant to the main photographer, taking secondary shots from different angles) by two separate wedding photographers. During several years shadowing them, I learned SO much. I watched how they set up their shots, configured their cameras, positioned their equipment, kept to their event schedules, found the light in cramped or dark spaces, and interacted with lots of different personalities.

but I decided weddings weren't for me.

I still keep in close contact with both of those photographers and consider them to be very dear friends. I wouldn't be where I am today without them! They did a fantastic job with weddings. I took the WEALTH of knowledge that I had learned and applied it to working with what I love the most - families! And seniors!

I still do a wedding or two per year, which I LOVE. And I actively photograph couples, pets, lifestyle newborn, branding, and all sorts of other things - but I focus on families and seniors for the most part.

How it's going

Over the years, I've learned so much about crafting gorgeous photos, mostly by trial and error! Practice and repetition helps a lot. I've also really come to love and enjoy learning the intricacies of business and marketing. I've still got a long way to go!

The key for me is having fun along the way. Enjoying every moment with my clients (most of which become friends!), following my creative whimsy, and taking breaks when I need to, avoiding burnout. Not only is it super important to me to take things at a relaxed pace and enjoy the experience, I want my clients to as well.

life is too short to spend it stressed & frustrated with things that should be enjoyed, and people who should be treasured.

Whether or not you choose me to be your photographer, THANK YOU for being here. I appreciate you more than you can possibly know. If you have questions or wonder if we'd be a good fit, I'd love to chat more!

"Christy is absolutely perfection! She has been photographing my family for over a decade. She is so patient and so sweet with my children!

We were originally directed to Christy because I was looking for a special needs photographer for now my middle child. Special needs or not I could not recommend her anymore!!!! She and her assistant Sarah are the reasons we keep coming back year after year after year.

No matter what you need, newborn, family, senior photos or anything in between…. Christy Rice Photography is where you need to be!"

meet my amazing assistant, Sarah!

She's absolutely fantastic. She's been known to sing Disney songs at the top of her lungs and wear a dinosaur costume to sessions.

Sarah's fashion design and photo styling background is super helpful in assisting with posing and composition! She pays close attention to details. For instance, she'll be sure to straighten your jewelry, "zhuzh" (fix) your hair to make sure it's perfect for each shot, and double check clothing for wrinkles. She also does hair and makeup! Sarah and I connect with each our clients to put them at ease to capture their truest beauty in the most authentic way... which usually involves laughing and generally having a blast together. You never know what each session will bring!

Sarah adores her black bobtail cat Mischka and loves all things pineapple and leopard.

"Christy and her assistant Sarah are both so fun to work with! It often feels like we are just hanging out with friends which makes everyone more relaxed for photos.

Christy is always willing to go the extra mile to get great details, lighting, and even stand in burrows for us just to get a perfect shot of our family!

I highly recommend Christy Rice Photography!"
